I am Mariia Protasova, an artist born in Ukraine and currently based in Sunnyvale, California. My work focuses on portraiture and character design, exploring themes of emotional depth and what I describe as “whimsical darkness.” Through my pieces, I aim to capture complex inner states, blending vulnerability, imagination, and subtle tension. Much of my work is influenced by my personal experiences and internal struggles. I often create in moments of introspection, using art as a way to process emotions and give form to thoughts that are difficult to express otherwise. This connection between my inner world and my visual output allows me to communicate feelings that might not be easily spoken. In terms of materials, I primarily work digitally using Procreate and Blender, which allow me to experiment with both 2D and 3D forms. These tools support my interest in combining semirealism with stylized, almost dreamlike elements. Overall, my work exists at the intersection of personal narrative and visual exploration. By merging emotional themes with digital techniques, I create pieces that reflect both my internal experiences and my growth as an artist.
